Looking for a home for two bonded former community/now mostly-domesticated cats.

Searching Found Charlotte May 13, 2026
Long post incoming (although not as long as the first draft was). About nine months ago, a skinnier version of the white cat pictured (we’ve been calling her Pearl), wandered by our house. I put a little bit of food out for her, and (unlike the other community cats in the area) she started to return after that initial feeding. At around the same time, we observed a litter of three kittens living in the storm drain. The white cat would go into the storm drain and crouch near them as if guarding them, so for a long time I thought she was the mother, but I’m not sure of that now. I put cans and dishes of cat food out by the storm drain so they could eat, but I never really saw two of the three kittens after that point. The third kitten, with an all-black coat (we’ve been calling her Toothless), survived by accompanying the white cat out of the storm drain at night, and joining her to eat the cat food I’d leave out on the front porch. Pearl was initially afraid of me, which I expected. As time went on, she started approaching closer when I’d bring food out. Eventually it got to the point where she showed curiosity instead of fear. I held out my hand, and she walked forward and headbutted it and started purring. From that point, she would come by for food and then stick around the house all day and wait for me to come outside again so she could approach for pets. Toothless only got as far as tolerating my presence while she ate with Pearl, and she never approached me for pets. Nor was she ever aggressive toward me, though. This was still close enough for me to trap them one night in mid-September and bring them into the garage while I scheduled spay/neuter appointments with the Humane Society (this is how I found out they were both female). We got them both spayed, had blood
