The MDAS is facing a deadly outbreak of a bacterial infection. Fosters are needed urgently
Miami Dade Animal shelter is currently experiencing an outbreak of Streptococcus equi zooepidemicus (Strep Zoo) among our dogs. This highly contagious bacterial infection spreads quickly in overcrowded environments. We are truly heartbroken to share that, despite our veterinary team's best efforts, we have lost several of our beloved dogs over the past two weeks to this disease. This is a devastating and difficult time for all of us who care so deeply for the animals in our shelter. Overcrowding has contributed to this crisis, and to protect the health of the animals still in our care, we need your help to amplify this urgent message to our community and encourage immediate lifesaving action. What We Need Now: • Adopters - Every adoption saves lives and creates space. • Fosters - Short-term fosters reduce shelter population and stress. Supplies and support are provided. • Rescue Partners - Help us connect with rescues that can pull dogs quickly. Every animal that leaves the shelter helps us fight this outbreak. If you are unable to foster or adopt and would still like to help, they have an Amazon wish list for the dogs
