Friendly Reminder to Check your fur babies for nasty TICKS

Searching Found Wichita May 13, 2026
I've found a few ticks this season on my dogs & thought I'd throw it out for others to do some tick checks. My dogs love the extra attention when I'm checking & petting every square inch. Here is a quick run down of what to do, if you're a new dog owner or just never seen the details. To effectively check your dog for ticks, perform a daily, thorough body scan, paying close attention to areas where ticks often hide. Use your fingers to feel for any bumps or irregularities, and then part the fur to inspect the skin. Common tick hiding spots include the ears (inside and out), between toes, under the tail, around the armpits, and in the groin area. Here's a more detailed guide: 1. Daily Checks: Make tick checks a daily routine, especially after your dog spends time outdoors. 2. Visual and Tactile Inspection: Start by visually scanning your dog's coat and then run your fingers over their entire body, feeling for any bumps or lumps. 3. Targeted Areas: Pay close attention to these areas: Ears: Check inside and outside the ear flaps. Feet: Examine between the toes and on the pads. Tail: Check under and around the base of the tail. Armpits: Feel under the front legs. Groin: Check the groin area. Collar Area: Check under and around the dog's collar, removing it if needed. 4. Use a Flea Comb: If your dog has a thick coat, a flea comb can help you part the fur and spot ticks more easily. 5. Remove ticks promptly: If you find a tick, remove it carefully using tweezers or a specialized tick removal tool, making sure to grasp it close to the skin and pull it straight out. 6. Check for other ticks: After removing a tick, be sure to check your dog for any others. 7. Consult your vet: If you're unsure about a tick or if your dog develops symptoms after a bite, consult your veterinarian.
